Sean Hurley’s practice focuses on civil litigation, including healthcare litigation, the defense of long-term care and assisted living facilities, personal injury claims, and cases involving corporations and nonprofit entities. As a litigator, Mr. Hurley zealously advocates for clients in state and federal courts, including working with local counsel across the country in litigated matters. Mr. Hurley’s litigation experience also informs his handling of transactional matters, recognizing how the decisions parties make in a transactional setting can lead to litigation when disputes arise.
Mr. Hurley has extensive experience representing religious institutes and religiously-sponsored ministries in litigation and transactional settings, including corporate governance and restructuring matters. Mr. Hurley devotes himself to being attuned to and serving the wide array of legal needs of the firm’s religious clients, consulting with canonical counsel as needed to ensure that religious organizations receive comprehensive legal advice.
Mr. Hurley received his undergraduate degree and his law degree, summa cum laude, from Indiana University. In law school, Mr. Hurley was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Property, Trusts and Estates, and Income Taxation. He also served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Indiana International and Comparative Law Review. Mr. Hurley is a Member of the Illinois Defense Counsel (“IDC”), where he serves on the Board of Directors and serves as Chair of the Practice Development Committee.
